Financial Support from VSETH - Application to the Vorstandsprojektetopf
Summary
The VSETH board kann financially support projects and events up to a maximum sum of CHF 5'000. This can be done either through a flat amount or a deficit guarantee (a deficit up to a certain amount is covered). All student projects or events relevant to VSETH members are eligible to apply.
For questions, please contact ia@vseth.ethz.ch.
In following, the process for successfully applying for funding is explained in more detail.
Overview
Writing an application
Write an introduction which answers at least the following questions:
- Who is organizing and doing the accounting?
- Who benefits (number of persons, relation to VSETH)?
- When will the project take place (preparation, execution, possible recapitulation)?
- Why is the project worth supporting (goals, uniqueness,...)?
As you are requesting financial support, also include
- Budget: Submit detailed revenues and expenses. If available, also include the accounts of previous/similar projects.
- Further benefactors: List all other requested sources of funding (departments, ETH-offices, companies, student associations, committees, cultural foundations etc.) and the state of those requests.
- Requested amount: What amount of money (and as a flat amount or deficit guarantee) is being requested?
The prospects for an application can depend to a large extent on whether you have actively pursued other funding sources, as far as is reasonable for your project.
Template
You can use the template below for your application (other formats are also fine, provided all the necessary information is given).

Submitting the application
- Make sure no information is missing.
- Early contact and good transparency are requested.
- Send the completed application as a pdf via email to ia@vseth.ethz.ch.
- You will then be invited to a VSETH board meeting, where you or someone representing your organization can present your proposal to the board.
Decision and payment
The VSETH board will inform you of it's decision after discussing the proposal.
Send a short desciption and a full account to quaestur@vseth.ethz.ch at most six months after the project's completion, so that the granted funding can be paid out. The emails subject line is: Auszahlung aus Vorstandsprojektetopf, Kostenstelle 20102, Sachkonto 764000.
Otherwise, granted flat amounts or deficit guarantees will expire six months after the project.
Tips and tricks
- VSETH usually does not support party-political projects.
- Factors in the decision can be:
- How many people benefit and if the amount per person is justified
- If other sources of financing have been pursued
- If the project benefits ETH students/VSETH members
Deficit guarantee vs. flat amount
Deficit guarantee: You have planned a budget with estimated costs and plan for revenue and expenses to balance out, but you would like to be safe in case your planned amounts are inaccurate.
Flat amount: If funds for a project are not given (planned expenses are higher than revenues (or the project has no planned revenue)) you can request a flat amount.
